Fr. Michel's 2018 Appeal for CCCM Alumni and his Friends

This letter was the latest appeal for help from the founder:

September 18, 2018

Dear Friends from CSO, CCCM, CCC and Benefactors,

After a very safe trip back to France (just in the nick of time, considering the typhoon that once again hit the Philippines), I arrived at Dijon, my hometown, on Wednesday 12th September. As I write this letter to you, my head is full of images and sounds, the images of your smiling faces and the sounds of all the wonderful encounters I had with you in Manila, Cebu, Iligan, Cagayan and Dubai. I thank God for the warmth of your welcome, for the joy of seeing so many of you, for praying together, for singing, playing, dancing and eating together (pastilan ka lami sa pilipinong pagkaon!) May God be praised indeed !

With this letter, I want to inform you of the following : While in Iligan where I spent 12 days, I had all the time to assess the present day situation of the Center. To be true, it is not very good.

First, the ODN sisters have decided to stop working at the Center. They left on Saturday 1st September.Second, the Spiritan Fathers were not not very sure to continue working at the Center.Third, the buildings and facilities of the Center are in bad shape.Seeing all that, I had three important meetings : one with the Bishop Administrator of the diocese and few people concerned with the Center. Second, with Fr Illah, and third with Ate Malou. The outcome of these meetings is as follows : The Bishop clearly stated that he wants the Center to continue operating, being fully aware that it plays an important role for the University students of the town. He promised that he would appoint a Sister who will work full-time at the Center. As for Fr Illah, he too promised that he would find a priest who will also work full-time at the Center and stay at the Center. Ate Malou, the priest and the sister will run the Center together with the help of the staff member and the student leaders. It was also decided that it was absolutely necessary to start as early as possible the works of renovation of the Center. The first phase will be the construction of a new building where the chapel is . The whole area will be elevated so as to prevent any flooding inside. The ground floor will be the chapel and the first floor a session hall which will be income generating as it could be rented to different groups when it is not used by the chaplaincy. While the building will be constructed, necessary repairs will be made in the various parts of the Center which need it. For all this work and for the increase of the salaries of the staff which, I feel, is necessary because they are very low compared to what is prevalent around, you understand that money is needed.I will continue to help the Center but I make an appeal to all of you, CCCMians and CSOans. You repeatedly told me during my visit that you have found the role played by the Chaplaincy important for your life. Please, then, help the Center financially. It is not important to give big amounts of money. What is important is to give a monthly contribution so that the Center can clearly budget what it can and cannot do.Sorry for such a long letter but it was necessary so that you have a clear picture of the Center. A very big thanks in advance for what you will be able to contribute.

Fr. Michel
